My Spiritual Path

To start, I want to express my gratitude for all the wonderful communications I received in response to my first Missive. They moved me greatly, and inspired me to continue writing!

This month I wanted to tell you more about my spiritual path, and how I ended up becoming the owner of Mystic Journey. Before I begin, however, I have one general thought I’d like to share. It is often easy to look back and say, “Wow, that was a significant moment in my life.” But in the moment, we usually are unaware we are experiencing one of the those “life-impacting” events. I say this to encourage all of you to keep your antenna up, your senses acutely aware of what is going on with, and around you. If you do, and are cognizant in the moment that you are experiencing a “life-event,” then you can use that awareness to expand and accelerate that event for your benefit, both in the present and in the future.

My spiritual path began when I was thirteen. That year, as a 7th grader, I became friends with a boy who told me that he was using a Ouija board with his mom and that crazy things were happening with it. He wanted to know if I’d give it a try with him. I excitedly said “Sure!”  That one-word response ended up shaping my entire view of life, and death.

My friend and I would have sessions with the Board. A spirit would come in and we’d ask it questions. We’d ask some silly, thirteen-year-old questions, but we’d also ask it about life, death, reincarnation and the like. The spirit would answer freely. My friend and I would each have a single finger on the Ouija board pointer, and it would zip around the board with answers. Sometimes we’d have to tell it to slow down. Sometimes the spirit would tell jokes. It was pretty wild.

Over time, the spirit agreed we could record what was coming across the Board (on an old-fashioned tape recorder). I actually transcribed those recordings, but over time those transcriptions disappeared. As we worked further with the spirit, we had sessions where it “entered” me, and other sessions where it allowed us to see it. I share this because this was my beginning, my opening to the awareness that there was more to life than just the physical plane.

I know this may sound far-fetched to some of you. Some may think I was just a young boy, and not understanding what I was experiencing, or not even experiencing it at all, but instead creating some fantasy in my own mind. But such is not the case. For those of you who know me, you know I’m more than a little “grounded.”  Being a triple Capricorn, I am very rooted to the earth, the physical, tangible world, and focused on practical and non-fantastical things. This was my beginning, my first opening to existence and energies beyond what we “see” every day.

My Ouija Board friend moved away after our 7th grade year. I’ve never been able to reproduce a similar experience on a Ouija Board with anyone since; and yes, I’ve tried. I didn’t have another “spiritual awakening” moment for about a decade.

In my last year of law school my girlfriend at the time worked for an intuitive. One day I went to see the intuitive for a reading. That reading changed my life, in two ways. First, this psychic foresaw the very niche field of law I ended up practicing, two years before it happened. She told me that I would be dealing with earth, with something smelly in the earth, and with resolving the problem that smell created.

My 25+ year legal career was built around Superfund pollution cases and who was going to pay to clean up the contaminants that had been disposed of into the earth. This was no random shot in the dark by the intuitive. She pegged my legal career exactly. This further opened me up to the knowledge that there are people among us who have special abilities to connect with the past, present and future and bring them all together into the “now” and give us information and guidance that are not generally available to the majority of us. (Please note that I use the word knowledge here very deliberately. This experience didn’t open me up to a notion, a concept, etc. She opened me up to “knowing” that some among can see more than meets the eye.)

Second, in response to my inquiry about a where to get more information on spiritual and metaphysical teachings, she handed me a card and said, “Contact the number on card.” I put the card in my wallet, and didn’t look at it again for about year. When I did look at it, I did so out of desperation.

I contacted the number on the card, and I can say without hesitation, this one call changed the rest of my life, and in large part set me on the path to where I am today.

I had just failed the bar exam, and felt I need some “outside” help to get over the hump to pass the bar. I remembered the intuitive had given me the card and decided this was a good time to seek this outside “help.” I contacted the number on the card, and I can say without hesitation, this one call changed the rest of my life, and in large part set me on the path to where I am today. Moreover, I can say that this sequence of events, failing the bar, and then calling the number on the card, was the first of my two personal encounters with the spiritual teaching that, “Some of the greatest blessings in our life come out of some the most trying, challenging times in our life.” For if I had never had failed the bar exam, I may never had called the number on the card.

As to whom that number on the card connected me with, well, stay tuned for next month’s missive. I’ll be sharing more of my journey on the path to opening Mystic Journey, as well as sharing experiences from my upcoming journey to Brazil! I’m leaving for another crystal adventure in just a few weeks, and we’ll be posting pictures from some of the crystal workshops I will be visiting, as well as one of the amethyst mines I hope to see. So watch for them! Between now and then, keep your eyes and ears and mind open to all that is happening around you. Miracles, and life-altering events happen all the time, and the more we are aware of them the more we can use them for our evolution and growth.
